Chapter 1

Jun 20, 2021    Ryan Bogert

This week we kick off our new summer series called Meaning(less): Chasing after the Wind. In this series we will be walking through the book of Ecclesiastes chapter by chapter. Pastor Ryan Bogert introduces our series this week with this book that is not the sort of book you expect to find when you open up your Bible, because it is one of the deepest and most profound books, but also one of the darkest. Ecclesiastes challenges our expectations and provides us the opportunity to consider what matters in life, what gives our life meaning, and what it is we are truly striving after. A key theme out of the book of Ecclesiastes is the Hebrew word Hevel, which is often translated as "meaningless" but a more accurate translation would say "smoke" or "vapor". The author of Ecclesiastes says that all of life is Hevel, chasing after fulfillment in things that will never fully satisfy us. Join us as we discover what scripture says about meaning in life and finding our true satisfaction and joy in God. Don't miss this introduction to an incredibly relevant and meaningful summer series at New Life!
