Welcome to the Journey of Waiting
Today marks the beginning of Advent, the traditional season of hopeful anticipation leading toward Jesus’ birth on Christmas. In Advent we reflect on many different seasons of waiting: the world that waited eagerly for a Savior to be born, our own waiting as we anticipate God making all things new and freeing us from sin and pain, and the things we wait on God for in our own lives. Today’s sermon looks at the waiting of the three Magi, who took a journey and followed a star to find the newborn Jesus. While they faithfully journeyed in hopeful anticipation, it’s likely that their long travels to find Jesus were marked with difficulties too. What can we learn from the Magi’s journey of waiting, and how can we find glimmers of God’s presence, love, and faithfulness as we wait on him?
